As a licensed mortgage broker, HIP is committed to protecting your nonpublic personal information. We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that meet federal standards.

Information We Collect

We collect personal financial information to help you on your homeownership journey.

Types of information we collect

  • Information you provide on applications (name, address, Social Security number, income, assets, debts)
  • Information about your transactions with us or our partners (loan amounts, payment history, account balances)
  • Information from consumer reporting agencies (credit history, credit scores)
  • Information from employers, lenders, or other third parties to verify your application information
  • Information about your property or potential property (address, value, condition)

Why we collect this information

  • To process your mortgage pre-approval or loan application
  • To verify your identity and prevent fraud
  • To provide personalized calculators and recommendations
  • To connect you with qualified lending partners
  • To comply with federal and state regulatory requirements

How We Share Your Information

We share information only as permitted by law and for legitimate business purposes.

Information sharing we are required or permitted to do

  • With our affiliates for everyday business purposes (processing transactions, maintaining accounts)
  • With nonaffiliated third parties as required by law (responding to subpoenas, preventing fraud)
  • With service providers who help us operate our business (credit bureaus, document processors)
  • With regulatory agencies for examination and compliance purposes

Information sharing you can limit

  • Sharing with nonaffiliated third parties for marketing purposes
  • Sharing with affiliates for marketing purposes based on your creditworthiness
  • Sharing with nonaffiliated third parties for joint marketing

Important note about partner referrals

When you request an introduction to a lending or real estate partner through HIP, you are authorizing us to share relevant information with that partner so they can contact you and provide services. This sharing is part of the service you requested.

Your Right to Opt Out

You can limit some—but not all—information sharing.

What you CAN opt out of

  • Marketing from nonaffiliated financial companies
  • Affiliate marketing based on your creditworthiness
  • Joint marketing with other financial companies

What you CANNOT opt out of

  • Sharing for everyday business purposes
  • Sharing required by law or to protect against fraud
  • Sharing with partners you've requested introductions to

How to exercise your opt-out rights

Option 1: Email us at privacy@hip.example.com with subject line "GLBA Opt-Out Request"

Option 2: Call us at (800) 555-1234

Option 3: Log in to your HIP account and visit Settings → Privacy Preferences

Your opt-out choice will take effect within 30 days and will remain in effect until you revoke it. New customers may opt out at any time. If you are a former customer, we will continue to apply your opt-out preferences.

How We Protect Your Information

We maintain comprehensive security safeguards as required by the GLBA Safeguards Rule.

Administrative safeguards

  • Designated security personnel responsible for the information security program
  • Regular employee training on privacy and security requirements
  • Background checks for employees with access to customer information
  • Written policies and procedures governing information handling
  • Vendor management program to ensure third-party security compliance

Technical safeguards

  • Encryption of sensitive data in transit and at rest (AES-256)
  • Multi-factor authentication for system access
  • Access controls limiting employee access to need-to-know basis
  • Intrusion detection and prevention systems
  • Regular security assessments and penetration testing
  • Automated monitoring and logging of system activity

Physical safeguards

  • Secure data center facilities with 24/7 monitoring
  • Access controls for facilities housing customer information
  • Secure disposal of documents containing customer information
  • Clean desk policies to protect visible information

Incident response

In the unlikely event of a security breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by law. We maintain an incident response plan that includes containment, investigation, notification, and remediation procedures.

Affiliates

Companies related by common ownership or control. HIP may share information with affiliates as part of everyday business operations.

Nonaffiliated Third Parties

Companies not related by common ownership or control. These include lenders, real estate agents, and service providers we work with.

Nonpublic Personal Information (NPI)

Financial information about you that is not publicly available, such as your income, Social Security number, account balances, and credit history.

Joint Marketing

A formal agreement between nonaffiliated financial companies to jointly market financial products or services to you.
